We had a team meeting with all suppliers and one kept going on an on about a certain social medium. Great-I like it-and I use it, but it's not the be-all and end-all. An integrated program with levels, mediums etc is much more effective. The client limited the options and ironically the medium didn't pan out well, which is actually a disappointment. My ego wanted them not to do well, but my better judgement and care for the client meant I truly wanted it to succeed. Since the client was dazzled by the pitch/technical info behind this medium they didn't take the time to stop and reflect.

Ultimately, every client understands technical details differently-some by reading, some by viewing/doing (ie/ surfing the medium) and some by listening to the discussion. By not sitting the client in front of the computer and walking through various options, the program lost some leverage. A good lesson(s) to use in similar situations.

In my own experience I have learned to focus on ho...

In my own experience I have learned to focus on how the technology / service reaches a solution for the client and why that solution is a good fit for them.
